Fashion and Style combined with Polyvore sets
I fear that minimalism is starting to seep through into Paris Fashion Week, I’ve witnessed some fashion shows that didn’t really feel as if they belong in Paris Fashion Week. Then again, that’s because I usually associate minimalism with NYFW, so it’s a personal aesthete thing with me; it’s nothing personal against the designers. Their design aesthete is their own, and they usually show that well in their seasonal collections. I’m still recovering from yesterday’s Balenciaga show, sadly it has nothing to do with the fact that Kim, Kanye, and baby North West sat in the front row. It has to do with the fact that Alexander Wang designs the line now.
For the record, I love Alexander Wang because his designs are straight forward and thought provoking, but I just don’t think he’s a perfect fit for Balenciaga. To me, Balenciaga was never about minimalism, nor was it about urban flair. It was about fashion and glamour, with copious amounts of color, not minimal amounts seen in that collection. This normcore trend that permeated NYFW and took hold in LFW and MFW has, sadly, made its way to Paris. Normcore? More like Borecore or even Snorecore. We need more Dolce & Gabbanas, Roberto Cavallis, Betsey Johnsons, Jeremy Scotts, or even Moschinos in the fashion industry.
The designers hitting the runway today are: Christian Dior, Issey Miyake, Odeeh, Loewe, Talbot Runhof, Bouchra Jarrar, Maison Martin Margiela, Yohji Yamomoto, Julien David, Undercover, AF Vandevorst, Peet Dullaert, Isabel Marant, Andrew GN, and Chalayan. I’ll post links to photographs through style.com or nowfashion.com. Links will also be posted to runway videos found on YouTube.
